As soon as there is a whiff of autumn in the air, I immediately start to gravitate towards the "Black" section of my closet. Even though it is still technically summer and temperatures are still warm, by the middle of August, my brain is already thinking of fall. Maybe working in an academic environment does that to you - you begin to think of September as the start of your new year, rather than January. The temperatures have become more conducive to wearing what I call "real clothes" and I took the opportunity to get out one of my pairs of swishy pants. Swishy pants, for the uninitiated, are pants that are loose and flowy, and "swish" dramatically around your legs when you walk (or when there is good breeze).

What fun britches! Like you, I work in academia, and September always feels like the beginning of the year to me too.
ReplyDeleteHooray for swishy pants!!! Very elegant!
ReplyDeleteLove how the structure of that great belt offsets / contains the soft & flowy.
This outfit makes you look so tall and svelte! Yay for swishy pants, they look dreamy to wear. The accessories are just right.
ReplyDeleteYou look like a fabulous rocker in your swooshy pants. Love your expression about the "real clothes." I don't enjoy summer dressing at all really. I mean, I try but I long for boots and tights and warm woolen things. Your top is the perfect compliment to the pants.
ReplyDeleteI am more of an autumn/winter clothes person too, I like the layering of a cardigan and boots and tights. The start of the academic year in September always feels like a new beginning too.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Melanie, you look 7 feet tall and super elegant, a supermodel on your own runway! I love the swishies, especially the double layer which you can see at the hem. Lovely! xxxx
I have ALWAYS thought of September as the beginning of the new year; and it's when I make my resolutions. I STILL feel the need to stock up on new yellow pencils, pens (preferable with peacock blue ink), and a black and white composition notebook. That black outfit is right up MY alley too...luv it! If you should happen to add another accessory, make it a black and white composition notebook!
ReplyDeleteHow sleek and trim you look in those floaty pants! You look fabulous, Shelley! I'm in love with those gorgeous earrings, too. The only way I'm affected by the academic year is that my teacher mates can't spend a week day in the pub with me and have to go to bed early on a Sunday! x
ReplyDeletenice outfit.
ReplyDeleteLove this -- your proportions of top and pants are right on!
ReplyDeleteOh bless you and your gorgeous swishy pants!!! You look delicious, I love the t-shirt and I need to visit a hospital gift shop that sells such divooooooooooooooooon earrings! xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteI agree: the new year is September when school starts. Always and forever. I don't work in academia and my kids are grown and gone, but I will forever get excited at the whiff of fall, new beginnings, a chance to start over and re-invent. I love it.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very svelte look for you, accentuating your waistline. Lovely! The pants are just the right width and flow and I love the earrings too.
(I just went back up to the other comments and saw that Melanie also used the word svelte...! Guess we see the same thing.)
I hear ya, sister. It SNOWED here two days ago and is forecast to be minus five tomorrow but I still think it must be almost Spring... I'm Cleopatra, Queen of Denial!
ReplyDeleteYou look as beautiful as ever in those fab swishy pants - they look super versatile too... can you wear them under skirts and dresses?

I love everything about this outfit - the simple yet fabulous t-shirt, the accent belt, and the swishy pants. Perfect casual weekend outfit. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteThe shape of this outfit is amazing on you - and the pants are amazing! I miss the Maycourt shops - there used to be one in Ottawa called the Maycourt Bargain Box (could still be there) - it was run by old ladies and it was the first 'thrift shop' I discovered when I was in uni.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful you look in the wide legged pants and swishy is such a great word. I might have to start using it with abandon. The belt accentuates your waist to perfection. This must be an announcement that fall is in the air!
ReplyDeleteTotally love this whole outfit. You look fab!
ReplyDeleteI just swiped the pic to put in my inspirational folder. You look mahvelous!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have lost weight
