It's So Fluffy!!!

The title of this post is dedicated to my 12 year old girl pal, Lily, with whom I saw the movie "Despicable Me", which means she's one of the few people that will get the reference.  The fluffy thing on my wrist is not attached to my sleeve, it is part of a set of faux fur cuffs that I purchased last week at From Mars.  Did I need them?  Of course not.  As any fan of eye-catching accessories knows, that is not the point.  Did I want them?  Yes, in the most irrational and giddy way, and the mere sight of them on my dresser makes me oddly happy. I've been wearing them to work, where people ask if they can touch them; it's sort of like having fluffy kittens tied around your wrist (not that I have ever done, or would advocate such a thing).  In the bitterly cold depths of winter, I'll seize upon anything that is inexpensive and legal (a girl has to have some standards) that will lift my spirits, and also, it seems, those of my co-workers and friends.

  1. Oh wow...I love those! I totally admire that you can get away with wearing them. My style is so mainstream but there's an inner unique me waiting to get out!

    How do you transition though?

  2. Kelly:
Thanks for commenting! My advice would be to try baby steps--try a colour or pattern you wouldn't usually wear in something small, like a scarf or a pair of shoes, or maybe a necklace that is a bit bolder than your other jewellery. Accessories are a good way to try something different without being overwhelming. Go for what you're drawn to! Discovering your own unique style is a process. 10 years ago, I wouldn't have had the nerve to wear these cuffs because I would have worried about what people would think, now, I wear what makes me happy.

  3. Thanks for the tips. I think I will try that. One small item at a time! I LOVE your blog by the way. I have it attached to my Google reader now so I can get each new post!

  4. Funny how Kelly and I have the same inner diva that wants to get out! We should both be asking, WWSD, "What would Shelley do?"

I love these cuffs and the thought of petting kittens all day (without traumatizing the kittens). So cute!
