My Shoes My Rules

So, remember these shoes?  Turns out they match my umbrella perfectly.  If I had a dress made out of the same fabric as my umbrella, that would be the most awesome, retina-burning outfit ever!  They don't match anything in my closet, which makes them the best shoes ever, because when you match nothing, you go with everything.  That's my new rule.

*these photos were taken in June, when it was cool enough to wear long sleeves, and real shoes*

When I've got the blues...

I just look down at my shoes!

flower patterned pants - From Mars (retail)
silk shirt - gift
shoes - Dr. Marten store Toronto
scarf - purchased from the Style Crone

I really love my 80's multi-coloured jacket, and have worn it way more often than I thought I would  when I bought it from The Sentimentalist last year.  It's another example of the "match nothing, go with everything" rule.  Of course, now that I look at this photo, I realize that the jacket kind of matches the shoes....

Jacket - The Sentimentalist
golf skirt (with built in shorts!) - thrifted
Dr. Marten brogues
owl necklace - Frilly Lizard (retail)

  7. I normally hate rules but yours are words to live by! Those ice-cream coloured brogues are incredible. If you fill your wardrobe with things that make your heart sing everything will go together 'cos they were bought with love! xxx

  8. I wish we had a Doc Marten shop here! I also wish there was a shop which could take any pattern you liked, and print it onto fabric.

  9. love your shoes insanely, and your rule is true Wisdom!, because pink&orange match everything, and if it's not matchy, then it's contrasting (my mom said!)

  14. The first outfit knocks me out!! The scarf in your hair is perfection and I love the whole look. The shoes really are special. I also love the way you took the 80's style jacket in the second outfit and combined it so cleverly with the rest of the pieces. I thought of you recently when I scored a pair of floral DM's at a clothing exchange. Problem is, I gave them to my daughter who desperately wanted them. Oh well. If she doesn't trash them, maybe I can borrow them sometime.

  15. I wholeheartedly and absolutely concur, Shelley! I have also found that the strange or the bright or the multicoloured things in my wardrobe just "go" with everything, it's a strange quirk of the universe!
I love the shoes, and yes, they match your beautiful umbrella perfectly. The first outfit is so very you, I think, by which I mean comfortable, urban, cool, perfectly styled, with interesting quirks and details. Yes, that's you!
The bonkers 80s jacket obviously goes with everything, just look at all those great colours.
Hope you're having a lovely weekend! xxxxx

  18. I'm loving your new rules and the examples that you threw our way. The shoes are very special and I see where they really make other pieces shine. I thought that I recognized the scarf and adore the fact that you've given it a new an exciting life. It's all in the details, which you do so well.

  19. Match nothing, go with everything? Brilliant.
Those shoes, yes, they are indeed awesome, as are you in both these incarnations. These shoes look too special for rain, but you could carry the umbrella as parasol when you take Fred for your morning walks after reading your fan mail.
