Colour Therapy

I've been spending more time dressed in black the past month than I would like, but I just can't seem to get off that midnight train.  It doesn't help that I have been sick with YET ANOTHER EFFING COLD this past week, and the wind chill was -25 for three days, so I just piled on as many layers as possible, and hoped for the best.  Fortunately, I had a couple of photos from last weekend of other women embracing the power of colour.

Two women, different generations, different styles, both resplendent in pinks and purples, at two different markets on a Saturday....

Every time I see Jackie she is dressed in bright colours with bold accessories.  I commented on how she always looks so put-together and she said that was something she has always done for herself, even when she was home raising her kids.

I love the way this young woman has paired her hot pink dress with funky accessories to give it a bit of an edge.  She's got a great look, from her purple hair to the buckled ankle boots!

  1. Hi Shelley! I always seem to catch you on here right after you've posted. I'm sorry you're not feeling well again. Get over it quick! Too much life to be enjoyed.
I sure love both of these examples of style expression. It takes confidence. Both have beautiful hair colors too.
By the way, I'm volunteering at my local senior center's thrift shop once a week. Today I worked along side the most adorable 91 year old woman. Turns out we have the same maiden name! We just may be related somewhere along the line.

    Take care!

  2. Oh no - poor Shelley - I hope you feel better soon. Both of these women look gorgeous - I especially love the second woman with her fab polka dot tights and purple hair.

    Big hugs, Sarah xxx

  3. Oh, man, colds suck! Hope you feel better quick. I always think eating oranges (for vitamin C) and spending some time in the sun (for vitamin D) helps. But... It doesn't sound sunny where you are :( Loving Jackie with all her rings. I'm such a sucker for rings!

  4. please let me recommend you take Olive Leaf extract (look up http://www.olea.com.au/), it builds the immune system I have taken it for years and I put my elderly father on it about a decade ago and he has not had a single cold/ flu despite lots of other serious health problems,

My husband has MS and has lots of problems but thanks to Olea he has not had sick day/ cold/ sniffle for the last 8 years...

  6. Hope you feel better soon. I have a closet full of 80% black clothing and love it. I have to force myself to add more color to my life.

  8. My suggested cold remedy is shots of tequila, or margaritas - lime for the citrus, salt to cut phlegm, and alcohol to make you feel better alllllllll over!

I don't think you need to apologize for wearing black. Forget all the color-obsessed ramblings of other people, and just be yourself. Remember Johnny Cash or Yul Brenner or Marla, or any number of beatniks. Black is cool, man!

  9. Perhaps your body is craving some colour, Shelley, and that's why you're feeling sick... Yeah, load of crap, I know! Wear what you like, I bet you look as stylish and funky as ever in black, just as these two lovely ladies are rocking the pinks and purples!
Take care of yourself, hope you feel better soon.
PS. Val's cold remedy is the one for me! xxxx

  12. Shelley, so sorry to hear that you have a cold. Take care and feel better soon.

Resplendent is such a great word to describe the two women you featured. Pinks and purples are great, but black is good too. Hope you stay warm under your layers!
