I spied this woman at the Home County Folk Festival, standing by herself watching a band, and was completely taken with her expression and the way she was standing. I thought she had great style and confidence--the tank and black pants worn with the leather belt was very chic and unfussy, and the earrings and haircut added a funky edge to it. I love seeing women of any age who look comfortable in their own skin, but especially those over 40.

First, let me say that this woman has the hair that I wished for when I was a kid. Actually, I still wish for it, but it ain't gonna happen. I can't believe how close a match her sunglasses are to her hair--the tones in the frames are the same as the tones in her hair!

When I saw this couple on the weekend of the Folk Festival, I made the assumption that was where they were headed. They are sporting a number of the accessories that are required in order to enjoy your Folk Festival experience, specifically: comfortable clothing, broad-brimmed sun hats and bags that I assume contain water and sunscreen. Or, they could just be out for a stroll on a sunny afternoon, and have been together long enough that they have adopted each other's style.

When I asked if I could take this woman's photo, she informed me that I had photographed her before, and indeed I had, in a great maxi-dress and hat. Here she's wearing another vintage dress, with a beautiful belt and funky sunglasses. She's obviously an experienced thrift shopper with a great eye for colours that complement her hair, and styles that looks fresh and modern.

I am now on Facebook. Da Da Da Dum. More correctly, Forest City Fashionista is now on Facebook. As much as I enjoy blogging, and my Flickr page, and connecting through email, I have avoided Facebook for a whole bunch of reasons. But in an attempt to promote my blog to a wider audience, I have created a "page", and it's going to be a work in progress for a little while, as I don't really understand how all this works, what I'm able to do, and how best to do it, so bear with me. In the meantime, everything continues as usual here, but you can also find me on Facebook as Forest City Fashionista. Suggestions are welcome from all you Facebook veterans out there about how to use this thing!

I thought this young woman had such grace and elegance, and the oversized earrings complimented this, rather than detracted from it. Had she been wearing a lot of makeup, or other jewellery, it may have been a different story. This is the last in my series of posts from Sunfest, so I can now resume my regularly schedule programming...

I ran into one of my favourite people, Ward 13 Councillor Judy Bryant, at Sunfest, and as usual, she looked very stylish in a mix of layers in solid colours, and some very cool green shoes.

I asked this man if he dressed like this all the time (I was so hoping he'd say yes!), but it turned out he plays with the band Gypsophilia, who were performing at Sunfest last weekend, and this is what he wears when they play. I love his entire outfit, but especially the bowtie and the shoes.
If you don't own that perfect sundress, there were plenty to be had at Sunfest (and at Home County this weekend). This young woman had just purchased hers at one of the many vendors selling ethnic-inspired clothing.

These are the two women you would have seen if you visited the Fairies Pyjamas booth at Sunfest last weekend. On the left is designer and owner, Michelle Lynn Johnson, who works with a fair trade manufacturer in Nepal to produce her unique and incredibly comfortable clothing and accessories. If you didn't get a chance to check out their booth, you can find the story of how Michelle started her business, and the online store here.

I had a lengthy conversation with this lovely young woman that included a discussion about short hair, and although it's easy to take care of, it can be a bit limiting in terms of styling options. In my case, if I get bored, I change the colour, but she has used the tiny clips to create the illusion of an updo. It looks cool and summery and goes perfectly with the delicate jewellery and sundress.

I like the whole look on this guy, who is a photographer and video artist. He's incorporated some elements of punk and rock & roll, but the white shirt makes it look classy. He also looks like he has a sense of humour--always a good thing!

It's always a pleasure for me to see people I've photographed for my blog, especially when they remember me, and are happy to be photographed again! I shot this young woman at Sunfest last year (you can see her photo here), but this year she had the rather noticeable addition of the cast on her arm (apparently a taxi hit her when she was on her bike--cars, grrrrr!). She still looked great and it certainly didn't stop her from dancing.
Bored with my hair, that is. This is for those 5 people whom I didn't run into at Sunfest (BTW, more Sunfest photos coming up). Thinking of going for a richer purple-red next time. Thoughts?

There are people at Sunfest whom I know get dressed up just for the weekend. It's the perfect time to try out the big sun hat, or the dress that may be a little too bright or too bare to wear everyday, or that tropical print shirt you bought on vacation. Then there are people like this woman, whom I'm pretty sure dresses like this all the time. She is beautifully decorated with unique accessories--the one feather earring is the first thing I noticed about her.
Words cannot express how much I love the fabulous beaded collars this couple is wearing, and they chose the perfect colour shirts to set them off. Great style has no age limit.

Because you can see a man dressed like this, who is completely comfortable and unselfconscious
Or this. Chris, you're awesome. I want to see this next year in a different colour.
I look forward to Sunfest every year. It is my absolute favourite London festival, primarily for the amazing world music that we are able to enjoy with no admission charge (thank you, Alfredo), and for the food and crafts. The other thing I love about Sunfest is that it seems to inspire people to wear things they may not otherwise bring out on a regular weekend--bold prints, funky hats, gorgeous jewel-coloured dresses, eye-catching jewellery, etc. Maybe these people dress like this all year round and I just don't see them, whatever the case, it makes me happy!

So, on one side of the park, I see this guy. I like the clean, graphic look of his outfit with the simple shapes and the jolt of orange against the navy and white.
Then, across the park, I run into this young woman, who I think looks adorable, but definitely does not subscribe to the same style aesthetic as the guy above.
Ten minutes later, two very different style aesthetics collide, and it turns out, they know each other. Life is cool, that's all I've gotta say.

Afraid I don't have anything Red and White to post in honour of our country's birthday, but I do have a photo of this lovely young woman looking very fresh and stylish. Some great elements here, not the least being the extremely cool boots. There's also the necklace, and the funky pants, which are from The Fairies Pyjamas, a great boutique and online store based in Toronto. Designer and owner Michelle Lynn Johnson works with a Fair Trade manufacturing facility in Nepal to produce her designs, which are incredibly comfortable with wonderfully unique details. I have skirt that I purchased from the store in Kensington Market in Toronto, and there will be a booth at Sunfest so you can check out her designs for yourself.
